MDA & the Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) invite Special Educators and other concerned stakeholders to an awareness event on "Bookshare", a reading resource available for those with visual impairments and learning disabilities.

Bookshare is an online library of digital books for people with print disabilities. It operates under an exception to U.S. copyright law which allows copyrighted digital books to be made available to people with qualifying disabilities. (The organisation has rapidly expanding content for India as well, having just signed agreements for making available several textbook series.) In addition, many publishers and authors have volunteered to provide Bookshare with access to their works. By requiring individuals to register as members and provide a proof of disability, Bookshare ensures that only qualified individuals use the service.

The International Program Manager of Bookshare, Kristina Pappas, will be visiting India in the first week of February, 2014 and she would be at the XRCVC on Monday, February 10, 2014.

In partnership with Bookshare, the  Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) is organizing an awareness event where special educators working both for the blind and dyslexic students will be made aware of the Bookshare option. We wish to spread this message to all special educators at least in Mumbai. This is a significant opportunity for Special educators, Counsellors and School Administrators to understand how this resource can change the way students with Learning Disabilities can access print resources online independently for both academic and leisure activities.

Do let us how many participants will be able to join us for an interactive session on February 10, 2014 from 2 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. at the St. Xavier’s College campus, Mahapalika Marg, Dhobi Talao.

Please call Divya at 2556 5754 to confirm your attendance.
